county to reclaim and taken over by the homeless. the deadly tornadoes in the midwest could soon impact our wallet. new tonight friends, family and others gathered to hold a vigil for the 13-year-old girl killed by a gunshot. roosevelt leftwich has more. >> reporter: her friends and especially her family, it's been a terrible week. tonight though gather to remember their friend. >> we ask that you would bless this family, father god. >> reporter: about 150 of her schoolmates, friends and family gathered in the parking lot of william marsh middle school. they wanted to say good-bye to their friend. monae turnage was a loved child and had many, many friends. >> our students are conflicted.

if you see one, you touch one. you let them know it's okay. you let them know they are supported and there are people here for them. >> reporter: her mother was there, along with many folks who want to trito get to the bottom of this. they want to see exactly what happened here and how a police officer may have been involved. >> what can we say to our children when those charged with protecting them harm them. we must protect our own children. >> reporter: everyone here was trying to deal with their grief and the circumstances that led to the death of monae. she was shot to death over the weekend by her friends who were playing with a rifle. >> i nomo that he is loving child, but today i'm asking for your support and i thank all of

you. just be strong and make right choices. sometimes by being young you make wrong choices. make right choices in life has you go along. >> reporter: now what happened out here as well, after though burned candles, they had a platform set up where they put teddy bears to remember their friend. that will be something for the kids to maybe leave little remembrances so they can remember their friend. once again, the investigation into the child's death is not over. that is still continuing. reporting live from east baltimore, roosevelt leftwich. let's go to anne arundel county where police have arrested four teens charging with them assault at meade high school. it took place a week ago. the school's row source officer discovered that the victim had been assaulted and his coat and

cell phone taken away from him. all four face assault, robbery, theft and other charges. washington, d.c. school is the latest in a series of schools across the country in the last day to have suspicious white powder show up in packages. later in the day students were allowed to return to class. several locations also had mysterious locations with white powder. schools in are in the texas, alabama, connecticut, massachusetts, rhode island, new york city and d.c. had them. so far testing has come back negative but more testing is being done not combination of the flu and bacterial infection is the flame for the death of

three of four family members. an elderly woman got sick. her children came over to take care of them. the woman, her son, her daughter all died. the other daughter is being treated in an opt. officials say this family is the only case they know of here in the state. doll montgomery will be the -- montgomery county will be the third county in our state to use cameras to catch and find hose who catch drivers who pass buses while students are getting on or off. the cameras will cost between $5,000 to $8,000 a piece. fines could be as high as $250. well, today a beautiful day to get out and enjoy the warmth from hiking or running or walking on the trail new known pass the torrey brown trail

private. the aclu was in annapolis today to testify in support of a house bill making it illegal for employers to require employees or those applying for a job to h. over their online passwords. now some companies have started to ask for passwords to sole home is groups like facebook, twitter, even your e mai. the aclu and those who support the bill say that request violates one's privacy and it is unacceptable. >> we want to make sure that employers respect the right to privacy, respect the right to a person's freedom of speech on their own personal email account. you keep an employer from monitoring their own business accounts, but it's really none of their business. the most recent example was a division of corrections officer who was asked to hand over his password for a recertification interview. the aclu also wants an investigation into the

allegations that anne arundel county executive john leopold told people to keep tabs on political opponents. they are concerned that leopold's actions would violate a law barring that type of surveillance. leopold was indicted last week on charges of misconduct in office relating to a security detail and the indictment includes having officers drive him to parking lots so he could have sex with another county employee or having them work overtime to keep one girlfriend from running into his live-in partner. foreclosure has forced thousands of of their homes. tonight it's the homeless being evicted. >> reporter: whether it's the soiled second hand mattress,

discarded clothing or an errant family photo, for years people called this makeshift campground just off route 27 home, but not anymore. >> the property owners asked them to leave. >> reporter: the carroll county sheriff's office gave the homeless 10 days to salvage their belongings before bringing in inmates from the detention center to clean up what they left behind. the first day alone they hauled away more than 17,000 pounds of trash. >> i never experienced anything like this. when i first seen it, it was really terrible -- urine, feces, clothes that had been here a couple years. >> needles, alcohol. i guess that's what they live for. nothing else they look forward to. it's crazy how they have to live

like this. >> reporter: we were told the encampment was not only an issue of public health but public safety. a hemless man was killed on the tracks and there were a number of break-ins at area businesses. for those charged with clearing the site, it is dirty work. it offers up a sobering reminder of what can happen when people lose the american bridge. >> it's definitely not a dole of mine. >> reporter: in carroll county, jeff hager. while the homeless are gathering up their belongings, deputies are tracking down their friends and families in hopes of finding them homes. lawyers mall was the gathering point for healthcare and advocates to increase the tobacco tax. advocates say the increase would raise tens of millions of

dollars for critical health programs. the taxation committee heard testimony today on two tobacco tax bills. governor martin o'malley has proposed it. there was a hearing over the death penalty in our statement of those with relatives on death penalty along with religious leaders are trying to get our state to abolish the death penalty all together. they say it's an archaic way to punish criminals. ben jealous said the money putting pel on death row could be spent somewhere else. >> take that money and spend it to the homicide unit to get more homicide detectives. >> the senate bill include as provision that would use $500,000 saved by eliminating the death penalty to find services for victim's families. a local volunteer fire company got more than a few subs from a local restaurant.

a great day to take a ferry to lewis and then to rehoboth. a beautiful day. wyatt will have a detailed look at the forecast coming up in about two minutes. more incredible video coming out of the deadly tornado outbreak. want to show you this cell phone video taken in indiana. you can see the tornado tearing across the ground. the national weather service says there were at least 42 confirmed tornadoes in 10 states on friday. the storms killed 40 people, including 13 in indiana. the storms may have been a full day's drive away from us but we are soon going to be feeling the effects. the first storm of 2012 will affect your budget. your insurance will be going up,

abc2news.com. winds are southwest at 10. they've been gusty throughout the day, taking in that spring like weather. today was the day with temperatures pushing up close to 70 downtown. here's our view at the bay bridge marina, high atop hemingway. i don't see too many people taking the boat out. in ellicott city, a nice sunset here. still clear. that will be the case through late tomorrow night like toward midnight into early friday morning. temperatures comfortable tomorrow, in the mid-60s. winds from the south. that will be the story tomorrow, probably gustier winds tomorrow. the numbers were in the upper 60s today. i think we add two, three, four degrees. tomorrow we should crack 70. across the region things are quiet with some passing clouds, watching the more significant weather brewing out to the north

and west, a new front pushing into the milwaukee area and minneapolis. that front will be making a dive south tomorrow. the initial impact will be instead of the mild southerly breezes, a stronger and southwesterly wind will kick in through the day tomorrow before that front passes through land really cools us off dramatically on friday. you can see the warmer air mix in and move up the coast toward montgomery, 73 right now. take a look at the timing on this. the front begins to move toward us by 6:00 tomorrow evening. clouds lynn crease. we're still dry. we bring in that line of showers, maybe a thundershower but we clear things out during the day on friday. the northwesterly winds will be dropping our temperatures steady. we think quite cool on saturday. enjoy it now. overnight 48 with a few clouds. your forecast tomorrow will be 70. sun and clouds, warm but windy. tomorrow night we'll bring in
